Psychotherapy Practise | Athens
This 26m² psychotherapy practice is located in the heart of Kolonaki, Athens, within a charming ‘polikatikia’ (multi-storey apartment building). The design’s primary goal was to create a space where clients feel at ease and are encouraged to express themselves freely.
Although the office is accessed via the basement level, the main therapy space is situated on the ground floor. The design responds to the challenge of the entry by focusing on creating a professional, welcoming atmosphere that offsets any initial reservations. The space was originally a small apartment with separate rooms for a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. By removing these dividing walls, the design creates a more open, fluid layout that enhances both privacy and comfort.
A standout feature of the renovation is the multi-functional furniture wall, which serves not only as a waiting area divider and storage but also incorporates a kitchenette, desk, and private space for the therapist. This practical yet thoughtful approach maximizes the limited square footage while maintaining a sense of openness.
The design embraces a timeless, minimalist and youthful aesthetic. Warmth is introduced through the use of plywood, adding a human touch to the otherwise sleek, contemporary lines. A minimalist rod structure introduces transparency, with elements like the visible sink blending into the design without drawing undue attention, ensuring the space remains serene and focused on its primary purpose.
Large stone tiles unify the floors, bathroom walls, and balcony, creating a sense of continuity throughout the space. The soft grey and beige tones of the palette are punctuated by occasional bursts of color through wall art, adding vibrancy and personality without overwhelming the senses.
This carefully considered renovation has transformed the practice into a vibrant, functional environment—one that is both professional and inviting, offering clients a space where they feel valued and understood.
